Why we are building Conch — and why now.

The tools for building private, performant communication have never been better. The need for them has never been clearer. We started Conch because we believe those two things meeting is an opportunity worth taking seriously.

The problem is not new.

People have known for a long time that advertising-funded platforms have misaligned incentives. The data harvesting, the behavioral targeting, the engagement optimization — none of this is new information. What is different now is how clearly people feel it.

The dissatisfaction with existing platforms is no longer abstract. It is personal. People want to talk to the people they care about without being watched, profiled, or manipulated. They want social spaces that feel like theirs.

The moment for Conch.

A few things have come together that make this the right moment. Encryption technology has matured. People are willing to pay for software that respects them. The regulatory environment is shifting. And the cultural appetite for an alternative is real.

We didn't build Conch because we saw a gap in the market. We built it because we wanted it to exist.

What we are building.

Conch is a complete communication platform — messaging, voice, video, communities, and social — built around privacy as a foundation, not a feature. End-to-end encrypted by default. No advertising. Funded by the people who use it.

We are not trying to be everything to everyone. We are trying to be the right thing for people who believe that their conversations and their attention belong to them. If that's you, we'd like to hear from you.
